Entry Requirements

Subjects

  • Minimum age: Domestic applicants must be 18 years of age or turn 18 within their first semester of study. International applicants must be 18 years of age or older. Questionnaire: Applicants must successfully complete the Suitability to Teach Questionnaire. Literacy and numeracy skills: Applicants must sign a form acknowledging that they understand the AITSL and NESA regulations requiring them to demonstrate literacy and numeracy capacities commensurate with the top 30% of the population through the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education students (LANTITE). The LANTITE test is administered by ACER (at applicant's cost) and must be passed prior to commencing their final professional experience. Inherent requirements: Students must meet essential components of this course (capabilities, knowledge, skills) to achieve the course learning outcomes. | Applicants with recent secondary education Assumed Knowledge: 2 units of English, experience and training in dance. Other applicants Refer to the ACPE general admission information English language requirements: All applicants must meet the minimum English language requirements for their chosen course of study. Computer literacy: All applicants for entry to any course must meet minimum computer literacy standards as determined by the college, have a personal email account and unrestricted access to the internet. Working with Children Check: For courses that involve work integrated learning where students may deal with children (ie under 18 years of age) a valid Working with Children Check must be supplied to the college prior to the student undertaking coursework. Applicants who anticipate failing a Working with Children Check should not apply for course entry. Direct entry To be considered for direct entry to the Bachelor of Dance Education, applicants who have completed Year 12 must meet one of the following requirements: a minimum of three NSW HSC Band 5 results, including one in English, or completion of bridging units equivalent to a minimum of three Band 5 HSC results, including English (as approved by NESA), or completion of a NESA-approved alternative entry pathway, or have completed a higher degree. Applicants can also be considered for direct entry into the Bachelor of Dance Education if they meet the following ACPE education requirements: completed four (4) HSC subjects, one being Standard English or a Higher English and with a minimum Band 3 for all 4 units. Progression Requirements for applicants admitted via the ACPE education requirements: Students can only progress to the second year of the course if they: pass all eight (8) first year discipline units
  • and have completed the Australian Council of Educational Research (ACER) Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Education Students (LANTITE)
  • and have an interview with the Head of Department Education and Dance to discuss progression into the second year Students who do not meet these progression requirements will transfer to the Bachelor of Dance Practice. Indirect entry Initial Teacher Education degree applicants who do not meet the direct entry requirements may be considered for entry via the indirect entry pathway program. Students must enrol in the Bachelor of Dance Practice and may be permitted to transfer to the second year of the Bachelor of Dance Education under the following conditions: pass all eight first-year units in the linked degree achieve a minimum credit average in the first eight units, or if an overall credit average is not achieved in the first eight units of the linked degree, pass the Australian Council of Educational Research (ACER) Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education students (LANTITE) at their own cost. The College reserves the right to refuse entry to any applicant based on an individual’s inability to demonstrate to its satisfaction suitability for entry into an ITE program. Additional criteria – dance courses Dance Workshop: Students applying to enter these courses must meet the requirements under one of the categories above. Applicants for Dance degrees are expected to have experience and training in Dance, which may include Dance as a HSC subject. Students will be required to attend a dance workshop during the Orientation Week. Through the dance workshops, we will be able to assess the level of your dance skills and assign appropriate level tutorial group. Students are encouraged to disclose pre-existing injuries which may affect your study. Dance workshops are held on a regular basis. Read further information and register for a dance workshop .

Assessment Methods

Assessment is varied across the programme and may include: Written examinations across foundational modules; Coursework essays and analytical reports; Group and individual projects with presentations; Practical lab, studio, or fieldwork assessments where relevant; A final-year dissertation or capstone project that lets you specialise in a topic of your choice.
